Feminists :: essays research papers

Feminists     While surfing the net income yesterday I came across an bind discussingwomen and their role in a changing society. The article, which was written byKarin Crosbie stated that although women have come a long way in the field ofwomens rights, there is still a long way to go. Crosbie stated that she is awomens liberationist, and as a womens rightist it is her responsibility to see that action is takento further the cause of the women by any means necessary. She explains thatwomen should not have to prove anything to men by such means as shaving theirlegs, nor conform by covert up the natural self with makeup.     I agree with the overall notion she is trying to convey, I thumb thatwomen do need to take action, and that not all opportunities are yet equal. Theproblem I have with her article is the run into that she and other contemporaryactivists are coveying to the rest of society.     When I theorise of a womens rightist two pictures come into mind. The first, whichmaybe a brusk outdated is a women like Susan B. Anthony, nearone fighting forreal issues that matter. The bet on is of a women like the author above, someonewho is extreme just to be extreme. To my disappointment it seems the later isbecoming more prevalent within society.      by and by reading the article I scrolled down the page to where it listed"more womens rightist links", the five that were given consisted of three lesbianrights pages, and two "neo-feminist pages". idea this must be only a smallpercentage of feminist pages which were given by this specific author, I wentback and searched many of the feminist pages on the web myself. To my unpleasantsurprise it turned out that virtually all were expressive of the same extreme theme.     So what does the current watch out of feminists as a whole mean to society? I pure tone that the current view of femin ists is detrimental to the womens movement.One source is that I feel the current views expressed by Crosbie are not only ugly but in a way repulsive. Once women could be high to say they werefeminists. Today it is some kind of extreme word that places you amongstradicals. This image could turn away perspective activists who would be majorcontributors to the movement. Another reason is that the focus has become moreon trivial extremities then on real issues. No one cares if women shaves herlegs or not, and although it might be some kind of symbolic stand I feel it is a
